Siyam World Review – The Best 5-Star Resort in the Maldives

In our Siyam World review we explore every aspect of the funnest luxury resort in the Maldives!

What’s the first image that pops into your head when you think of the Maldives?

Is it relaxing in an infinity pool in an overwater bungalow, cocktail in hand and staring blissfully out at an endless horizon of glistening, turquoise sea?

Swinging in a hammock without a care in the world, white sand beneath you and nothing to fill your days except spa treatments and suntanning?

It sure does sound idyllic, but if you’re like us you might find this enjoyable for all of a few hours before you start to fidget in your beach chair, wondering what else you could do to actually have some fun.

Historically this has been a traveller’s vision of the Maldives – a postcard paradise that is the perfect place to go and do nothing.

And that is fine, if that is what you’re looking for.

But what if you like to spend your holidays hitting up all kinds of adventurous activities, on land, under the sea and even in the sky?

Siyam World Maldives Review – Ultimate 5-Star Luxury for Adventure-Seekers

Jarryd and I loved our time at Siyam World as we could relax on the beach for an hour or two, and then hit up the house reef for some snorkelling, water park for fun, jetskiing or parasailing for adrenaline, spas for wellness, ball courts for sports and then wrap it all up with boutique cocktails for sunset.

It was also the very first place we stayed when we visited the Maldives. Did it live up to our impossibly high expectations?

Here is our honest Siyam World Maldives review after our 5-night adventure-filled getaway.

Where is Siyam World Located?

Siyam World is located in the Noonu Atoll, one of the 26 atolls that make up the Maldives and about 200km north of the capital city, Malé.

This pristine location is renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and abundant marine life.

The island itself is a lush tropical haven, surrounded by coral reefs teeming with vibrant fish and sea creatures.

The Noonu Atoll’s location offers a perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility. Visitors can enjoy a tranquil escape, with opportunities to explore nearby islands and immerse themselves in the local Maldivian culture.

The atoll’s vibrant coral reefs, including the house reef, are a haven for snorkelling and diving, making Siyam World an ideal base for exploring the natural wonders of the Maldives.

How to Get to Siyam World

To reach Siyam World you first have to fly into Velana International Airport in Malé, which is well connected with a whole bunch of major destinations including Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai, London and Frankfurt.

If you’re taking the seaplane that day a representative from Siyam World will meet you as you exit customs and will give you instructions on what’s happening next.

Seaplane

From the international airport it’s just a short 45-minute scenic seaplane journey to Siyam World, with breathtaking views of the atolls and the Indian Ocean as you take the low-altitude flight north.

The views from the plane on a clear day are spectacular so make sure you have your phone or camera on you.

Seaplanes operate during daylight hours, so if you arrive in Malé late in the afternoon, you might need to stay overnight before catching your seaplane the next day.

Seaplanes provide the most direct access to Siyam World, and the in-house reservations team will handle your seaplane bookings for you.

Domestic Flight and Speedboat

If small seaplanes are not your thing, don’t worry, you can still get to Siyam World. It might just take a little longer and have a stop on the way.

You will need to take a domestic flight from Velana International Airport to Maafaru Airport, located in the Noonu Atoll. You can fly there with Trans Maldivian Airlines.

This flight usually takes around 40 minutes. From Maafaru Airport, Siyam World arranges a speedboat transfer to the resort, which takes approximately 20 minutes.

Once you arrive at the resort, a warm welcome awaits, with staff ready to help you settle in and start enjoying your stay.

Be sure to coordinate your transfers with the resort in advance to ensure a smooth and seamless arrival.

Even if your flight details change or you book another flight due to unfortunate circumstances, do let the resort know so they can have everything arranged for you.

We heard about a family who missed their flight to Malé and arrived a day later, but forgot to tell the resort, so when they walked out of the airport there was nobody there to meet them.

Just send off a quick email if there’s any delays and they’ll look after you.

Welcome to Paradise Our Arrival at Siyam World

Arriving at Siyam World by seaplane was nothing short of magical.

The mesmerising views of atolls and vibrant coral reefs sparkled like jewels in the Indian Ocean.

The turquoise water and fringing reefs wrapped around the large, palm tree-speckled island of Siyam World beneath us as we descended, and before too long we touched down in the calm lagoon.

Stepping out onto the floating platform we were greeted by the warm, tropical breeze and the friendly smiles of the staff playing traditional instruments.

Our luggage was magically whisked away in the back of an electric golf buggy and the team handed over a refreshing welcome drink and wandered down the jetty with us towards the island.

We couldn’t stop grinning at the colour of the water around us, which was the most spectacular shade of blue we had ever seen.

The white sand beaches were something out of a postcard, and when we made it to the beachside pool area we were given some fresh coconuts to sip on while a quick orientation was given.

Bruce Wayne, one of the managers at Siyam World, and Happy, our concierge, led us to a hot pink Moke car and drive us around the island to our villa.

The island was even more beautiful than we could imagine, and it was an impeccable way to be welcomed to paradise.

What a location!

Our Accommodation – Beach Suite with Pool

We had booked our 5 nights at Siyam World in one of their superb Beach Suite with Pool villas, and it felt like winning the vacation lottery.

Happy opened the door for us and we stepped into pure luxury.

At 102sqm, the ocean villa is almost as big as our home, with a spacious bedroom complete with a king-sized, coffee machine, a fridge stocked with refreshments (all complimentary with our stay), and a large TV for those lazy evenings – not that there’s lazy evenings at Siyam World!.

Inside The Room
Inside our beachside villa room.

In the back is the open-air bathroom featuring both an indoor shower, large bathtub, his and hers sinks, and an outdoor shower with uninterrupted views of the sky.

Stepping out of the main bedroom, separated by sliding cavity doors, is the cozy lounge area.

This large space has lounges against the walls, another television and its own air-con unit.

Outside though is the real magic, where the villa extends into a private oasis.

There was our sprawling sunbed, a dining table and chairs for chilling, which then led out to our very own private pool flanked by two sun loungers.

Just beyond the infinity pool was a few metres of pristine sand beach, the only obstacle between us and the endless Indian Ocean.

Every single morning we would make a coffee and step across the sand into the sea, sitting in the water and sipping our brew.

And more often than not, we shared our morning ritual with the local black tip reef sharks swimming serenely nearby—an experience that’s as thrilling as it is unforgettable.

(Don’t worry, reef sharks are friendly sharks.)

Siyam World’s Beach Suite with Pool villa offers an exceptional escape where luxury, comfort, and nature converge to create a sublime paradise.

Other Accommodation Options at Siyam World

Siyam World has other options for accommodation as well, all of them luxurious and in different parts of the island.

Of course it wouldn’t be the Maldives without the iconic overwater bungalows, and Siyam World has a whole variety of them, including water villas.

These water villas feature infinity plunge pools, views of the turquoise lagoon, indoor whirlpool baths, waterslides, glass water bottles, mini-bars, WiFi, and direct access to the beach or lagoon.

There are the entry-level villas, which are anything but basic, right up to a family-sized suite with a private pool and a slide into the ocean.

The water villa options also include private sundecks and various inclusive packages and activities for guests.

We didn’t stay in any of the overwater bungalows, but they did look very lovely.

Siyam World is a paradise for sports enthusiasts and fitness buffs, with all kinds of amazing facilities available for guests.

The resort boasts a full-sized football field where people can enjoy a game of soccer. It’s perfect for friendly matches and organised events.

In fact, the week before our arrival, Premier League footballers were hosting a kids sports camp here.

Tennis lovers will find several courts to play a match or practice their skills, regardless of their experience level.

And if you’re in the mood for something a bit different, the Padel tennis courts offer a fast-paced game that combines elements of tennis and squash.

Both tennis and Padel tennis are complimentary for guests, and we took full advantage of the paddle tennis for our first every time trying the sport.

Transport

The island is big, one of the largest in the Maldives, and as such it can take a while to walk around the entire resort.

That’s why Siyam World has a dedicated electric bus transport service, with different bus stops placed at strategic locations on the island.

The buses go in two different directions, so you just wait until the right one comes along for whichever way you’re going.

To be completely honest, the bus system did seem a bit all over the place.

There would be 2, 3, 4, sometimes 5 buses in a row going in the opposite direction, and then none coming the other way for a long time.

Other times we’d let the driver know where we were going, they’d say jump in, then we’d go on a complete lap in the wrong direction where we were actually only a few stops heading the other way.

It wasn’t a big concern, just something to keep in mind if you have a set schedule you need to meet somewhere. Make sure you give yourself some extra time to get around (or you can always walk).

Siyam World's Electric Bus
There are multiple electric buses that go around the island to transport you.

Activities and Excursions at Siyam World

The heart and soul of Siyam World really does lie in its activities, and you can never get bored here.

It’s this sheer amount of fun that makes Siyam World different to the rest of the resorts in the Maldives.

Siyam Water World

Siyam Water World is a thrilling aquatic adventure park that promises fun and excitement for guests of all ages.

As the largest floating water park in the Maldives, it offers an array of exhilarating activities set against the stunning backdrop of the Indian Ocean.

We headed out on our first day at Siyam World, and even though we initially thought it was more of a kids’ activity, we had the absolute funnest time!

The park features an extensive range of inflatable obstacles, slides, trampolines, and climbing walls, all designed to challenge and entertain.

Whether you’re looking to test your agility on the obstacle course, make a splash down the slides, or simply bounce around on the trampolines, Siyam Water World provides endless entertainment.

Safety is a top priority at Siyam Water World, with trained lifeguards on duty and life jackets provided for all participants.

The park is suitable for both children and adults, making it a fantastic family-friendly attraction.

Water Sports

Siyam World is a haven for water sports enthusiasts, offering a diverse array of activities that cater to all skill levels and preferences.

With the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean as your playground, there’s no shortage of thrilling and relaxing aquatic adventures to enjoy.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

We also took the stand-up paddleboards out for a but and loved it. It was a great way to enjoy the ocean’s tranquility while getting a bit of a workout.

The gentle waves around Siyam World are ideal for both beginners and seasoned paddlers.

Us On Sup Boards
Getting out on a board or kayak is a must

Kayaking

For a peaceful escape, we took a kayak out on the calm, turquoise waters.

It was a perfect way to soak in the beauty of the surroundings, and we had so much fun drifting over the reef and being left in awe of the colour of the ocean.

Jet Skiing

For those craving speed and excitement, jet skiing is the perfect choice.

Racing across the open water was exhilarating, and the professional instructors made sure everything was safe and fun.

Professional instructors are available to ensure a safe and exhilarating experience.

Us On Jet Skis
The jet skis were so much fun!

Windsurfing

We didn’t get the chance to go windsurfing on this trip, as there was basically no wind at all the entire time we were there, but if you’d like to try it lessons and equipment rental are available at the water sports centre.

Catamaran Sailing

Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Maldives as you sail smoothly over the clear waters. This activity is perfect for those looking to combine relaxation with a bit of adventure.

Parasailing

Parasailing gave me a whole new perspective of the island. Soaring high above the ocean and taking in the panoramic views was an unforgettable thrill.

Us Parasailing
Jarryd and I parasailing was a great experience.

Fishing

Experience traditional Maldivian fishing or go big game fishing in the deep sea. The resort offers various fishing excursions, allowing you to catch your own dinner or simply enjoy the serene environment.

These water sports activities at Siyam World ensure that every guest, whether seeking adventure or relaxation, can find their perfect way to enjoy the stunning Maldivian waters.

Coral Planting with a Marine Biologist

One of the most memorable experiences we had at Siyam World was the coral planting activity with a marine biologist.

It was not just a fun and educational experience but also deeply fulfilling to contribute to the preservation of the beautiful marine ecosystem.

The activity started with a brief orientation session where the marine biologist explained the importance of coral reefs and the threats they face.

We learned about the critical role they play in supporting marine life and protecting shorelines. The biologist’s passion for the ocean was contagious, and it made us even more excited to participate.

The biologist showed us how to handle the coral fragments carefully and guided us through the planting process.

Using heavy duty zip ties we attached coral that had been recently broken off the reef, yet was still alive, to a structure made of rebar.

Ensuring they were fixed properly, we spaced them out evenly and then took the steel structure up the pier and jumped into the sea with it,

The biologist dropped the new coral garden in place at a depth of around 7 metres, then took us for a snorkel to explore the rest of the house reef.

While we were snorkelling we learnt all about the various species we encountered.

It felt like a private, interactive marine biology lesson, and we left with a much deeper appreciation for the ocean and its inhabitants.

Alesha Coral Planting
Coral Planting is one of the great programs Siyam World does to help the reef.

Night Snorkelling with Blue Light

Another activity we did here was the blue light night snorkelling at Siyam World, a truly otherworldly experience.

We took a boat out just after sunset to nearby Iru Fushi (another Sun Siyam resort), where we donned snorkelling gear and dove in with powerful torches.

The reef came alive under the blue light, revealing glowing corals and vibrant marine creatures that looked straight out of a sci-fi movie.

Diving and Snorkelling

Snorkelling at Siyam World were some of our favourite parts of the entire stay.

The house reef is alive with colourful coral and all sorts of marine life, and easily accessible straight off the jetty.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to dive here at Siyam World, but we met other travellers who did and absolutely loved it.

Underwater Reef
The snorkelling at the House Reef was great.

Rent a Moke

One of the most fun and convenient ways to explore Siyam World is by renting a Moke.

These open-air, electric buggies are perfect for getting around the expansive resort, offering both practicality and a touch of adventure.

Plus it’s a real head-turner.

With the resort being quite large you really need to utilise the bus network to get around, unless you opt to pick up your own Moke like we did.

We had an absolute blast cruising around the island, stopping for meals, drinks and little side adventures.

You can pre-book this before you arrive, which we recommend as there’s only a handful of them on the island and once people see them they are super popular.

Alesha With Moke
Rent a moke for the day!

Horse Riding

Siyam World is the only resort in the Maldives with its own horse ranch, offering a unique horseback riding experience.

After you go through a safety briefing you meet your horse and head out for a supervised ride along the beach, which is best timed for sunset.

The friendly, professional staff ensure both horses and riders are safe and comfortable, making it accessible for all levels.
